Scriptures on Inner Peace

Bible verses that will help you find inner peace

The Bible is filled with scriptures on inner peace and yet we often read right over them without letting their truth settle in our hearts.  Why is that?  We rush from one task to the next, while deep inside we just want to stop and breathe.  We worry and we wrap ourselves in guilt because we know that our best efforts will always fall short.  You can have inner peace even if you feel it isn’t possible.

Philipians 4 6 7

Bible verses that show you what to do to obtain inner peace:

Philippians 4:6&7 Have no cares (worries); but in everything with prayer and praise put your requests before God.  And the peace of God, which is deeper than all knowledge, will keep your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

Submit everything to Him with prayer and praise.

James 3:18  And a harvest of righteousness is grown from the seed of peace planted by peacemakers.

Romans 12:18  If possible, so far as it depends on you, live in peace with all people.

Be a Peacemaker.

Romans 12:16 Live in harmony with each other. Do not be arrogant, but associate with humble people. Do not think that you are wiser than you really are.

Be humble and keep the company of humble people.

Ephesians 4:2,3  With all gentle and quiet behaviour, taking whatever comes, putting up with one another in love; Taking care to keep the harmony of the Spirit in the yoke of peace.

Be gentle with each other.

James 3:17  But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere.

Let the Spirit fill you with Godly wisdom.

Proverbs 22:6  Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.

Proverbs 29:17  Discipline your son, and he will give you rest; he will give delight to your heart.

Correct and discipline your children, teach them the Word and you will have peace. But what if they wonder off?  Then you have to have peace in God’s promise that they will find their way back.

Isaaiah 32:17  The effect of righteousness will be peace, and the result of righteousness will be quietness and confidence forever.

Live a righteous life.

psalm 23 4

One morning when my youngest was about 3 years old, we were driving in the car and suddenly he asked me if I realized that he wasn’t really in the car.  I could have told him that since I can see him, he must be in the car but instead I decided to play along and find out what was going on in his little head.

So I responded with a simple “Oh?”

“Yes” he promptly replied, “I am not in the car at all, I am in God’s hand” he said.

Now there was a time when I would have been tempted to say that children make faith seem so simple, but the truth is that children, just like anybody else, draw on past experiences.  In the event they don’t have a particular experience, they will draw on the experience of the person closest to them.

A mother who’s scared of lightning may be inclined to teach her children to also fear lightning.  Without some outside intervention from someone who doesn’t fear lightning, her children will probably also grow to fear lightning and may eventually teach that fear to their own children.   But if a person of trust intervenes; like a father, grandmother, grandfather, or a teacher, that fear can be broken.

At 3, my son was a little short on life experience, but he knew that God was very real to the person closest to him – his mom.  In the past I’ve questioned exactly how accurate my understanding of faith and all things God really is.  What I have never wondered about though, is if God really exists.

I have never wondered about whether He is good and just.  I have never wondered about His love for me.  I have always had faith that when I need Him most, He’ll be there.

Somewhere this faith must have started with a small step of trust, that turned into two and three and eventually into kilometers and a continued walk through life and therefore I can walk by faith and not by sight.

Too many times, God has turned what I thought was an impossible situation into what I couldn’t even imagine.  And so I’ve learned to trust that He has plans for me.  Plans that are good and not bad.  He gives me a hope and a future and I know that when I call upon Him and pray to Him He will hear me.

God feels the same about you today and always.  He sees you and your struggles.  He knows about your pain and uncertainty.  He is not too busy or big to be intimately familiar with the details of your life.  Put your trust in Him today and let Him quiet you with his love.

Here is some scriptures on why you can have inner peace today:

Jeremiah 29:11  For I know the plans that I have for you,’ declares the LORD, ‘plans for well-being, and not for calamity, in order to give you a future and a hope.

He has good plans for you!

Romans 12:19  Do not take revenge, dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath. For it is written, “Vengeance belongs to me. I will pay them back, declares the Lord.”

Isaiah 49:25  But the Lord says, Even the prisoners of the strong will be taken from him, and the cruel made to let go his goods: for I will take up your cause against your haters, and I will keep your children safe.

The Father Himself will see to it that you get justice and He will keep your children safe.

Romans 8:28  And we know that for those who love God, that is, for those who are called according to his purpose, all things are working together for good.

If you love God, He will work all things for your good, even things your enemies meant for harm.

Prayer

Thank You Father that Jesus left us with His peace and that my heart doesn’t have to be troubled or filled with fear.  You are the source of hope Lord.  Fill me with Your joy and peace as I put my faith in You so that I may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.  You are my hiding place and my shield and my hope is in Your Word.

Thank You that You have not given me a spirit of fear but of love, power and self-control.  I have love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control because these are the fruits of Your Spirit inside me.  These fruits are abundant in my life. I submit my life and my plans to You in obedience.

Not my will but Your will be done. In Jesus Name, Amen.

John 14:27  May peace be with you; my peace I give to you: I give it not as the world gives. Let not your heart be troubled; let it be without fear.

Romans 15:13  Now may God, the source of hope, fill you with all joy and peace as you believe, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
